There will be approximately 420 pupils on roll by January 2007, aged from 4+ to 11. Children begin school in the academic year before their fifth birthday, either in September or January, and leave at the end of the year during which they have become 11. Children enter the school in Reception Class, and move up each September, finishing in Year 6 when they are 11.
We have no provision for Nursery children.
Prospective parents / carers are invited to visit our school at any time by arrangement with the Headteacher. We will be pleased to show you round and answer your questions. Please see the separate section in this book headed "Starting School" for further details of Reception admission.
Class Organisation
There are currently two parallel classes for each year group from Reception to Year 6. Our standard admission number is 55, though in practice we normally take up to 60 pupils in any one year group, making class sizes of 30. All classes are of mixed ability.
The School Day
The morning session is from 8.45 until 12.00, with a break from 10.15 to 10.30. Afternoon school is from 1.10 to3.10, with a break from 2.30 to 2.45 for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The times of the afernoon break may vary depending on the timetable for the use of the ‘brain gym’ equipment.
The teaching time per day (minus registration, assemblies and break time) is as follows;
| Reception - Year 2 | 22 hours 0 minutes |
| Year 3 - Year 6 | 23 hours 15 minutes |
Reception children are allowed into school with parents at 8.35 a.m. but all other children are asked to wait in the yard until the bell sounds for the beginning of the day at 8.45 a.m.
No child should arrive at school before 8.30 a.m. though, in bad weather, they may be admitted to the building. While we cannot guarantee their safety and supervision before that time there is usually a member of staff on duty in the yard from 8.40 a.m.
Children should leave the premises promptly at the end of the day, unless taking part in an organised after-school activity.
